Gresford Athletic Development suffered a disappointing start to Phase 2 with a 5-1 d defeat away to Ruthin Town Reserves on Monday night, bringing an end to our unbeaten run stretching back to August 2025.
Ruthin opened the scoring early, but we responded well when Sam Bryan equalised from a Oscar Synnerdahl-Evans set piece. However, two late goals just before half-time gave the hosts a commanding advantage going into the break.
The second half saw an improved performance from Gresford in spells, but a lack of sharpness showed at times, not helped by limited training opportunities recently due to poor weather. Ruthin added a four th from the penalty spot before capitalising on a defensive mistake for their fifth.
A frustrating result overall, and one we'll be looking to respond quickly to as a we seek a reaction on Sunday at home to Colwyn Bay.
Fun Fact - Out of the current development squad - 6 players have been at the club since u7's progressing through all the junior teams.
