Gresford Athletic moved five points clear of the JD Cymru North relegation zone with a thrilling 3-2 home win over Penrhyncoch on Saturday. (January 10th)

Penrhyncoch took a narrow lead into half-time after Dion Phillips’ finish, but Gresford completed a quickfire turnaround in the second half thanks to Tom Smith’s first goal since October and Mitchell Williams’ stunning strike into the top corner from distance. 

Dan Owen continued his impressive scoring run for the Roosters, netting his sixth goal in five games to level the scoreline on 83 minutes, but Gresford restored their lead just three minutes later thanks to 18-year-old Sam Bryan’s first ever senior goal. 

The Colliers are now up to 13th in the table and have claimed back-to-back wins for the first time this season, while Penrhyncoch remain bottom of the table and three

The history of the present-day Gresford Athletic stretches back to 1903 where gresford finished 8th in the league and 5th in the following season. They reamined in the league until 1912 where after there's little evidence of the club in archives until 1922.
